At the invitation of WIMA AFRICA’s Continental Chairman, a delegation from Tanger Med Group participated in the association’s International Conference and Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting, held from May 29th to June 1st, 2024 in Douala, Cameroon. This flagship event for African women in the maritime, port, and “blue economy” sectors was held under the theme “The inclusion of women in the development of a sustainable maritime industry for a prosperous Africa”. It was marked by enriching discussions, the exchange of experiences, and networking sessions aimed at sharing best practices and strengthening the capacities of the continent’s women.

The experience of Tanger Med Group’s women was hailed by all participants at the round table entitled “Women’s activities in promoting the blue economy: Sharing experiences on initiatives undertaken by WIMA AFRICA member countries to promote the blue economy”.

Several foreign delegations from countries such as Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Mozambique, DRC, and Togo took part in this important meeting. The opening ceremony was attended by numerous prominent figures, including the Representative of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Moussa Djafarou, Inspector General, Auguste Mbappe Penda, Managing Director of the Conseil National des Chargeurs du Cameroun (CNCC) and Honorary Chairman of WIMA AFRICA-Cameroon, and Mrs. Akuélé Yevona Adanlete Lawson, Continental Chairman of WIMA AFRICA and First Vice-Chairman of Douala City Council, who all expressed their delight at seeing the Moroccan delegation join the event.

The event also hosted the meeting of WIMA AFRICA’s Executive Board and Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting, providing an opportunity to review WIMA AFRICA’s activities over the past two years, prepare for the elective General Assembly scheduled for November 2024 in South Africa, and discuss important upcoming events, such as participation in the next United Nations ECOSOC meeting.
