CONFERENCE 1 “MOROCCO’S INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS STORY”

Jaafar Mrhardy, Managing Director of Tanger Med Zones, spoke on the 11th October in a panel dedicated to presenting the success story of the industrial sectorin Morocco.

Tanger Med industrial platform, operated by the planner developer “Tanger Med Zones”, is made up of 6 activity zones, developed over 2,000 hectares around the automotive, aeronautics, textile, food processing, logistics, and services sectors.

The presence of Renault and PSA in Morocco has strongly reinforced the development of the automotive ecosystem at “Tanger Med Zones”. More than 110 automotive suppliers are currently present in the group’s various activity zones from China, Japan, Korea, Europe, and the USA. These partners benefit from the proximity of the Tanger Med port complex to be more competitive and to distribute to target markets.

Ranked as the world’s 2nd most attractive economic zone by the Financial Times, and the world’s leading zone specializing in the “automotive” sector, the Tanger Med industrial platform currently has a total of 1,100 active businesses representing an export business volume of MAD 59 billion by the end of 2020.

Thanks to its state-of-the-art infrastructure, its maritime connectivity, and its commitment to digitalization, the Tanger Med port complex is a premier platform for promoting the logistics competitiveness of Moroccan importers and exporters.

CONFERENCE 2 “THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF LOGISTICS INFRASTRUCTURE IN MOROCCO”

Hassan Abkari, Deputy Director General of Tanger Med Port Authority, spoke on October 14th in a session dedicated to the impact of logistics infrastructures on the national economy.

Tanger Med is a maritime and logistics hub for the world’s largest maritime alliances. It is positioned as a major transshipment platform for intercontinental traffic to Africa, which accounts for nearly 40% of container traffic handled.

As a reminder, Tanger Med port complex is strategically located on the Strait of Gibraltar, at the crossroad of the main maritime routes. Connected weekly to more than 180 ports, it offers exceptional handling capacities of 9 million containers, 7 million passengers, 1 million vehicles, and 700,000 trucks.
