The Africa Economic Zones Association (AEZO) and the African Union, in partnership with Tanger Med Group, organized the “Annual Meeting of Special Economic Zones” on November 23rd and 24th under the theme “Promoting Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Diversification: A Roadmap for African Special Economic Zones”.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Omar Moro, President of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, Mr. Mehdi Tazi Riffi, CEO of Tanger Med Group, and Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, CEO of NEPAD, Mr. Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, Kenya’s Secretary of State for Investment Promotion, Dr. Richard Bolwijn, Director for Investment at UNCTAD, and Mr. Chiza Charles Newton Chiumya, Director for Industry, Mining, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism at the African Union.

This annual meeting was a platform for debate on the major issues involved in sustainable industrialization and economic diversification across Africa. The decision-makers drew their inspiration from international best practices, while taking into account the continent’s unique socio-economic landscape.

Over 300 participants took part in the event, representing more than 60 economic zones from 48 African countries, including international organizations, financial institutions, investment promotion agencies, and more than 30 international experts.
