This evolution is particularly related to the progression of volumes from / to Africa to which Tanger Med is connected through weekly services to 37 ports.

The regional distribution for container traffic in 2017 is as follows: 35% of traffic with Africa, 23% with Asia, 25% with Europe and 8% Transatlantic.

A GROWING TRUCKS AND PASSENGERS TRAFFIC

Truck traffic also grew by 9% in units and by 14% in weight, with 286,538 Truck units in 2017 corresponding to 7,081,010 tons, thanks to the growth of industrial exports of more than 10% and agro-foods of more than 11%.

The port handles about 97% of TIR truck road flows and 50% of Moroccans’ terrestrial flows around the world.

 HYDROCARBON TRAFFIC IN PROGRESS

Hydrocarbon traffic at Tanger Med port has increased by approximately 1% compared to 2016. It recorded a total of 6,032,076 tonnes of processed hydrocarbons.

A total of 430,358 vehicles were handled at both vehicle terminals.

SHIP TRAFFIC: RISE OF CONTAINER SHIP CALLS

During the year 2017, 13,502 ships docked at Tanger Med 1 and RoRo and passenger ports. In particular, the Mega-ships calls (vessels of more than 299 m) belonging to major global shipping companies are increasing by 17%.
